DIARY OF EVENTS
THE FRIARY

The Friary is a council estate close to the city centre where much of our activity takes place.  Our passion is to make the Friary a special place. For too long the Friary has not had the care and support that it deserves, so it is our aim to work with the residents to achieve something better.

The overwhelming response we have had from talking to people on the Friary is that there are not enough activities for young people on the estate and little sense of community spirit.  We have responded to this with the three main initiatives outlined below.

TREASURE KIDS

We have a regular children's club for 5 to 10 year olds which meets every Wednesday during term time from 5.20pm to 6.45pm in the Community Hall. About 20 children enjoy fun activities including games, singing, craft activities and Bible stories.  Our team comprises Ruth, Shana, Janey and Ann.

This year we will not be running a holiday club during August, because we are co-operating with the Shine Bus ministry who will be bringing the bus onto the estate on Tuesday mornings.  For more information click here

YOUTH CLUB

We are now working in partnership with Wiltshire Youth Service to provide a drop-in club for 11 to 18 year olds every Wednesday from 7pm.  Salisbury's Youth Development Co-ordinator, Winnie Manning, says that together with the church they are committed to providing a safe environment with activities and ongoing support for young people on the Friary.  Dolly, Maria and Phil are our regular youth workers, who with the involvement of the young people are planning a programme that will keep them busy and positively engaged.

FRIARY CARE GROUP

The Friary Care Group exists for all residents of the Friary.  We produce a periodic newsletter for distribution to all homes on the estate.  From time to time we also organise community activities such as coffee mornings, coach trips and carol singing.

Last year's community art project has transformed  the Churchill Gardens subway with colourful murals painted by residents and children.

Our next event is a picnic to take place in Churchill Gardens on Sunday 18th July at 1.30.  Just come along!  We will be providing free soft drinks and there are games for the children.

We also provide a listening ear and experience to help resolve personal concerns, whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual. If you need us to pray with you for any situation that’s troubling you we would be pleased to do so.  Whether you need help or advice, or maybe would like someone to visit you, you can get in touch with us either  by email to friarycaregroup@googlemail.com,  by telephone to Ken Davies on 01425 656384 or 07828 159110, or by letter addressed to the Friary Care Group at the Community Centre, 114 Carmelite Way, Salisbury  SP1 2HW.
